Vijay TV's musical series on Yuvan Shankar Raja

Vijay TV will be airing a 4-week, 16 episode musical series on Yuvan Shankar Raja (Yuvan) as a run-up to a live concert in Chennai.  Each half-hour episode will be broadcast Monday to Thursday at 10.30 pm. Vijay TV will create and produce the series, a source from the channel told RnM. The concert is likely to be staged between the last week of December and the middle of January, and Vijay TV plans to start airing the Yuvan series four weeks before the concert date.

The musical series will revolve around Yuvan, popular music composer and son of the illustrious Illayaraja. It will cover his journey through the eyes of his friends, family and colleagues from the industry. The episodes will also feature the career ascent of Yuvan, as well as insights into his family which has its roots in the town of Pannaipuram.

The theme of the ‘Yuvan Live  In Concert’ is ‘Celebrating music that’s young and fresh’.  Yuvan will also compose an album which would cater to the audiences across Tamil Nadu.  The album is likely to be released on the day of the concert.

The event promises to feature a galaxy of music and singing stars like Hariharan, Shreya Ghoshal, Shankar Mahadevan, Vijay Yesudas, Karthik and Haricharan, with Yuvan in the lead. A special segment named  ‘Band of Brothers’ would be staged in which, for the first time,  the entire family comprising Yuvan and his siblings Karthik Raja, Venkat Prabhu, Premji Amaren and Bhavatharini would perform.

The highlight of the concert will be a segment, Unforgettable, for which Yuvan and the maestro – his father Illaiyaraja -- will perform together.  International dance acts are also a part of the concert. The channel plans to bring on board as many personalities as it can,  and has yet to announce the date.

A road show to promote Yuvan’s album has been planned. Yuvan would travel to Madurai and Coimbatore to promote the same apart from promoting it in Chennai.

As is well known, Yuvan is an Indian Tamil film music and soundtrack composer, singer and occasional lyricist. He has scored music predominantly for Tamil and Telugu films. He has won two Filmfare Awards; the Best Music Director Award in 2004 for his score in the drama 7G Rainbow Colony at age 25 (the youngest winner of the award) and the Special Jury Award in 2009 for his Telugu musical Oy!  Besides, he received two nominations for Filmfare Awards, one Tamil Nadu State Film Award in 2006 and the Cyprus International Film Festival Award in 2006 for Raam, becoming the first and only Indian composer to win it.

Whats up with Yuvan's concert


Tamil music along with Tamil cinema has evolved over the years… from classical infusions to pop & more recently Rap and international influences..! And one name that is synonymous to this evolution is none other than the protégé of the music maestro – the one & only Yuvan Shankar Raja.!

Yuvan Shankar Raja, has music in his blood. The youngest son of the music maestro Ilayaraja; Yuvan in a short span has become the icon of the Tamil music industry. A music career that began at the age of 16 & within a span of 13 years, Yuvan Shankar Raja has scored for over 75 films. Considered a highly versatile composer, he often strives for different, innovative and stylistic music and has explored and used elements of various genres in his compositions that range from folk to heavy metal. He is particularly known for his use of western music elements in his pieces and often credited with having introduced Hip hop to the Tamil film and music industry and having started the “era of remixes” in Tamil Nadu. Being immensely popular among the younger generation, he is frequently called the “Youth Icon ofTamil Film Music”. In addition, Yuvan Shankar Raja is recognized for his background score in films that have fetched him high praise among critics.

Vijay TV is all set to celebrate this young & talented musician Yuvan Shankar Raja.!

As part of the celebrations, Vijay TV would air a special series titled “Yuvan Isai Raja” a series that capsules the rise of the star YUVAN.! The show hosted by RJ/actor Shiva; would feature a long list of directors / actors who have worked with the protégé. Directors Vishnuvardhan, Selvaraghavan, AR Murugadoss, Linguswamy have shared their experiences of working with Yuvan. His siblings Karthik Raja, Venkat Prabhu, PremG, Bhavatharini & Vasuki Baskar share childhood memories with Yuvan. The show airs weekdays at 8pm.

A promotional music video “I’ll be there for you”; with music composed & sung by none other than the man himself Yuvan Shankar Raja has been produced by Vijay TV. This music video which has been created with international standards is directed by the stylish director Vishnuvardhan has Nirav Shah behind the lens. the lyrics of this fresh & foot tapping number is penned by Na Muthukumar.

And capping of these celebrations; would be a grand musical concert in January, 2011. For the first time ever on Indian Soil; Yuvan Shankar Raja would perform in a LIVE concert in Chennai to over 20,000 screaming fans..!

The concert with the theme “Celebrating Young & Fresh Music” will feature singers Shreya Goshal, Shankar Mahadevan, Karthik, Haricharan, Harish Raghavendra, Andrea, Rahul Nambiar, Vijay Yesudas, Tanvi, Suvi, Madhumita, Bela Shende among others performing some of the chartbusters from Yuvan’s compositions..! Special segments have been planned as the Yuvan takes centre stage as he would perform some of his best music compostions; Yuvan would also perform with hissiblings in a special act. Also on the cards is a special segment that would feature two kollywood stars in a “re-mix” performance with YUVAN..! For the first time, the audience would get to witness the father-son duo; the maestro Illayaraja & protégé Yuvan Shankar Raja in a performance together that would surely be “Unforgettable”..!

The event would be attended by the industry big wigs both friends & well wishers of this Music Prodigy; and the crème de la crème would present the show. With state-of-the-art production values, lights & sound ofinternational standards , grandiose sets & performers from across the world; this high decibel event is all set to take place on January 16, 2011 at YMCA Grounds, Nandanam.
